How to open an EML file
- Drag your
.emlfile into the box above, or click "Choose a file" — this eml file viewer works online, right in the browser tab you're already in. - The headers, body, inline images and attachment list appear below.
- If a message blocks remote images, click "Load remote images" to show them — they're often tracking pixels, so they're off by default.
Tested with
.eml exports from Microsoft Outlook (desktop and web), Gmail, Apple Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird — plain-text bodies, HTML bodies, inline images, non-Latin subject lines and attachments.
Check it yourself
The email body renders in a sandboxed frame with scripts disabled, so nothing in the message can run code. Open your browser's developer tools and watch the Network tab while you open a file — nothing is uploaded. See the full privacy page for details.
Known limitations
- Very large attachments (multi-gigabyte files) can be slow to render, since everything happens on your device.
- Encrypted (S/MIME) messages show headers but can't display an encrypted body.
FAQ
Why are images missing from the email?
Remote images are blocked by default because they're often used to track when you open an email. Click "Load remote images" if you trust the sender.
Can I save what I see as a PDF?
Yes — use EML to PDF for a downloadable, selectable-text PDF.
Do I need to install anything to open an .eml file?
No. This .eml opener runs entirely in your browser — no desktop mail client, extension or account needed. Drop the file in and the headers, body and attachments appear immediately.
